Academy for the 20th Century
Rome, Italy 2009
The brief for this project was to create an academy in Rome for the study of the 20th century. We analyzed the site through a complex study of historical and formal layers, studying ways a palimpsest can influence design. The major generator for my design was referencing historical building types of Rome as well as designing a building that was inherently affected by the historical Aqua Claudia that ran through the site. The project included housing for scholars, meeting rooms, teaching spaces, work studios, exhibition halls, a library, and a museum.
